Derek McCormack is a human geographer whose thinking and writing is informed by nonrepresentational approaches to the affective materiality of spacetimes. His current project explores how the meteorological and affective senses of atmosphere become the focus of different experimental practices. He is pursuing this project by following the speculative excursions of one object -- the balloon -- across various domains of expertise and experience including art, science, geopolitics and popular culture.

This is a workshop, not a talk. Our guest speaker will engage in an conversation with the audience.Derek has kindly shared two pieces of his work in progress; it is the material we will work with at the workshop. If you plan on attending please RSVP and get the papers from Joshua Weiss at jzweiss@ucdavis.edu *

please read prior to attending!
